Clash of Clans FAQ

Straight answers to the questions Clash of Clans players ask most — about rushing, maxing, Builders, resources and progression. New to the game or planning your next Town Hall, start here.

What is rushing in Clash of Clans?

Rushing means upgrading your Town Hall as fast as possible while skipping most defense, troop and hero upgrades along the way. A rushed base has a high Town Hall level but weak, low-level buildings compared to a maxed account at the same level.

Is rushing good or bad?

It depends on your goal. Modern Clash of Clans is friendlier to rushing than it used to be, and rushing to unlock new content or Builder upgrades can be fine for casual play. But for competitive war you will eventually have to go back and fill in every skipped upgrade — especially heroes and offense — so a rushed account is weaker in war until it catches up. A balanced push usually beats an extreme rush.

How long does it take to max a Town Hall?

At higher Town Halls a single max can take many months of consistent daily play, because Builder time and hero timers — not loot — are the bottleneck. Lower Town Halls (TH7–TH9) can be maxed in a few weeks each; TH13 and above often take several months apiece even with a full set of Builders and regular play.

What should I upgrade first at a new Town Hall?

Keep your Laboratory and hero altars running at all times, then prioritise offense (army capacity, key troops), then storages large enough to hold your biggest purchase, then splash and signature defenses. Walls and collectors come last. See our upgrade priority guide for the full order.

How many Builders should I have and how do I get more?

You start with two Builders and can buy more with gems, up to five Builder Huts. A sixth Builder (the O.T.T.O Hut) is unlocked by progressing the Builder Base. More Builders is the single biggest accelerator to your progress, so many players save gems specifically for them.

What is the highest Town Hall level?

Clash of Clans currently caps at Town Hall 18, with Supercell adding a new Town Hall roughly once a year. Each new level brings new defenses, troops, a hero level cap increase, and often a new hero or defensive building.

How do I get dark elixir and why does it matter?

Dark elixir comes from Dark Elixir Drills (unlocked at TH7), from raiding enemy dark storages and drills, and from league and star bonuses. It funds your heroes and some of the strongest dark troops, making it the resource that most directly gates your war strength — farm it deliberately.

Should I focus on offense or defense?

Offense. Your heroes, lab and army capacity are used in every single attack for loot and war stars, while any one defense only helps on the occasional defense. Keep defenses current enough to upgrade your Town Hall, but when you must choose, offense wins.

What does ClashTrack do?

ClashTrack tracks your village against every upgrade: it shows what is maxed, what is next, the exact costs and build times, and — with the Rusher — the ordered prerequisites to reach your next Town Hall. It turns these general guides into a personalised checklist for your own account.
